VEC Integration Optimization

 Initial Situation & Objective

As part of wiring harness development, electrical components and system information needed to be exchanged between various tools and organizations. Different data formats and proprietary interfaces – including those between Siemens Capital and PREEvision – complicated data exchange, resulted in redundancies, and increased effort in coordination as well as quality assurance.

The goal of the project was to create a unified, vendor-neutral interface solution that simplifies data exchange and ensures its long-term stability.

The focus was on:

  • a standardized data foundation for electrical system information
  • consistent and traceable data flows
  • high extensibility for future system integrations

Our Solutions

The Vehicle Electrical Container (VEC) was implemented as the central foundation to structure electrical system data in a unified way and make it usable across systems.

  • Implementation of VEC as the Standard Format for Data Exchange
  • Development of an API that transforms and transfers data between truck and bus systems
  • Ensuring interface quality throughout the entire process
  • Ensuring data consistency between development and target systems

Results & Added Value

The implemented VEC interface led to significant improvements in day-to-day engineering work:

  • Standardized data exchange across system and organizational boundaries
  • Reduced redundancies and lower error susceptibility
  • Improved data availability for all systems involved
  • Increased process stability in electrical system development
  • Future-proof architecture for further integrations
